[Community Resource] How to Read Your PPC Search Term Report Like a Pro

One of the hardest skills in Amazon PPC is moving beyond surface-level metrics like ACoS and actually diagnosing what’s working, what’s wasting money, and what needs more data. A community member has offered free analysis of real Sponsored Products search term reports to help sellers build that muscle.

What to Look For in Your Search Term Data

When reviewing 30–60 days of Sponsored Products search term reports, focus on three categories:

Clear waste:

  • Out-of-stock ASINs still running ads (money burned with zero conversion potential)
  • Campaigns bidding against themselves (internal keyword conflicts)
  • Irrelevant search terms with no logical connection to your product

Margin-dependent performance:

  • Some search terms may have acceptable ACoS for high-margin products but would be unprofitable at lower margins
  • You must know your break-even ACoS to make these calls accurately

Insufficient data:

  • Terms with very few clicks (< 5–10) are too noisy to evaluate; they need more impressions before you decide to pause or optimize

Why This Matters

Most sellers skim ACoS without understanding why a term is performing that way. Real PPC optimization requires reading between the rows — spotting patterns, understanding intent, and recognizing which decisions are premature. Building this skill now prevents months of inefficient spend later.

How Squatio helps

Squatio Optimize (PPC intelligence) surfaces keyword performance patterns and competitor bidding data, but the human judgment of why a term matters — whether it aligns with your product, whether your margins support it, or whether you have enough data yet — remains your responsibility. Use Squatio to accelerate the discovery phase, then apply the diagnostic thinking described above to make the final call.

Do you currently review your search term reports regularly, or do you mainly focus on campaign-level ACoS and adjust bids from there?
